20th century A.D. A group of two objects comprising: a stone painted with Nazca-style bird and reptile; a framed batik panel displaying a figural scene, label to the reverse in Spanish reading '54. Dios De Las Profundidades sentado y sosteniendo en su mano un trebol con una mascara del dios jugeton. Dibujo de un jarron de Chochola, Yucatan. (glifo 1011). Dumbarton Oaks.', roughly translating: 'God Of The Depths sitting and holding in his hand a clover with a mask of the playful god. Drawing of a vase from Chochola, Yucatan. (glyph 1011)'. 760 grams total, 10 - 52 x 30 cm (4 - 20 1/2 x 11 5/8 in.). Private U.K. family collection formed in the early 1970s. The property of Mr and Mrs P. R. of East Sussex. Thence by descent to family members. The batik panel is apparently inspired by a Mayan vase in the Dumbarton Oaks collection, dated 700-800 A.D., catalogue number PC.B.530. [2, No Reserve]
