Description
[CIVIL WAR]. Pewter, leather, and glass whiskey flask with engraved identification.Â
5 1/2 x 3 x 1 1/4 in. pewter, leather, and glass whiskey flask (majority of glass missing, tarnish to pewter, chipping and surface wear to leather). Pewter cup inscribed, "Col. F.L. Lee, 44 Reg. Ms. Inf., 1862."Â
Francis L. Lee enlisted as a major on 26 May 1862, and was commissioned into the 4th Massachusetts Battalion the following day. Just a few days later, he was mustered out. The 44th Massachusetts encountered the enemy at Rawle's Mill, and joined the Goldsboro Expedition in December 1862, just missing the Battle of Kinston, but later engaging at White Hall.Â
