Description
Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Moche, Phase IV to V, ca. 450 to 800 CE. A hand-built and highly burnished pottery vessel with a protruding foot, a spherical body, a stirrup-shaped handle, and a gently tapered spout. The beige-hued vessel is decorated with red pigment to form a scene of dense semicircles, concentric circles, and oscillating stripes, all surrounding a pair of abstract, feline-headed creatures with anthropoid limbs, perhaps depicting the Decapitator God.
