Description
Herman Albright (1876-1944) California, Watercolor on Paper. Albright studied music and philosophy at the Heidelberg University and after graduation wandered about Europe for a few years. Shortly after the turn of the century he came to the U.S.and traveled extensively before settling in San Francisco in 1905. He knew immediately that it was the place he had been seeking, and took his first and only job as an employee of the Paul Elder Book Company, a position that he held for 25years. He was nearly middle-aged when he began taking art lessons from Gertrude Partington, whom he wed in 1917, and in that year had his name legally changed from Albrecht to Albright. By the 1930s he was an established figure in the San2Francisco art world and contributed landscapes and florals in oil, lithographs, and wash drawings in Chinese ink to local exhibitions. He remained a resident of San Francisco until his death on Sept. 21, 1944.Size: 21 x 22 in.
