Auguste Rodin Autograph Letter Signed

RODIN, Auguste. Autograph Letter Signed, "A. Rodin", in French, 1p on a bifold sheet, 4.875" x 6.625", no place, no date. Untranslated. Notations from the previous collector in graphite on verso. Remnants of archival mounting tape at verso; folds; light creasing; else, in near fine condition.

Rodin writes to art critic and historian, Armand Dayot. In the letter, Rodin tells Dayot he is "very happy with the session in your office" and feels the "most beautiful momentum".

Auguste Rodin (1840-1917) was a French sculptor, the creator of "The Thinker" and other well-known masterpieces. His characteristic style and virtuoso technique made him the leading sculptor of his time and placed him at the vanguard of modern art. As such, he was regularly sought after for large-scale commissions and busts of people of international renown such as George Bernard Shaw, Victor Hugo and Gustav Mahler. Rodin remains one of the few sculptors widely known outside the visual arts community.
