R. Reagan Signed Pre-CA Governor Magazine Cover Plus Likely Presidential Portrait

Two items signed by 40th U.S. President Ronald Reagan (1911-2004), including: a magazine cover dating from just before his California gubernatorial bid, signed by him as "Ronald Reagan," and a black and white photograph signed by him as "Ron." Condition issues are elaborated below, but the two pieces are in very good to near fine condition overall. The largest piece measures 10.125" x 12" x 1.25."

The lot is comprised of:

1. An excised front cover from "Parade: The Sunday Newspaper Magazine" published in the September 5, 1965 issue of the "Arizona Daily Star" serving greater Tucson, Arizona, showing a smiling Reagan, with Lloyd Shearer's story headline: "Show business personalities enter politics. Ronald Reagan: He wants to be California's governor." The cover is signed and inscribed by Reagan as, "To Louis Mandell / Best Wishes / Ronald Reagan" near the center bottom. Walter Scott's gossipy "Personality Parade" is printed verso. Expected wear including toning, folds, and scatted minor wrinkles or closed tears, else very good to near fine. 10" x 12." Accompanied by an invoice/packing slip dated July 17, 2020.

2. A semi-glossy black and white photograph of Reagan, probably presidential era, inscribed and signed by him as, "To Lou - With Every Good Wish / + Best Regards - / Ron" along the bottom margin. A few gentle wrinkles, with some fading and a slight smear to one word, else near fine. Displayed in a fancy silver-toned easel back picture frame. The sight size of the photograph is 7.5" x 9.5" while the overall frame size is 10.125" x 12" x 1.25."

Reagan began his career as a B-list actor who starred in World War II-era romantic comedies and westerns. He entered the political arena during the 1950s, initially self-identifying as a Franklin Democrat, but then transitioning to conservatism. Reagan served as Governor of California from 1967-1975, and as President from 1981-1989.
