A Gothic Madonna with apple, Salzburg, circa 1420Polychrome lindenwood(?) figure of the Madonna with crown, carved in three-quarter relief. The Virgin Mary, seated, holding on her lap the Christ Child. Holding in her right hand at chest height a red apple representing the original sin and mankind's need for redemption. Her ideally proportioned face has an impressive, slightly saddened expression. Original colour, stabilised, and partially restored. Tension cracks on both knees of Mary and Christ's legs. One of the boy's hands restored, fingers missing. The crown and one fold bumped. Height 68 cm.Condition: II - III
