Item Details
Description
3 Antique Red Kutani Bowls from the estate of Katsuko Fujikado-Lee, an Ohara (Ikebana) School Grandmaster who lived in Washington D.C. The graduated set probably dates to the Meiji Period. The Proceeds from the sale will go to the North America Ohara Teacher's Association in her memory.

Richly decorated on both the interior and exterior, the bowls share the same patterns and motifs. The interior vignettes are set against a densely rust red and gold background. Two scholars composing poems populate one vignette. The creative intensity is reflected in the face of one scholar as he brushes the calligraphic script onto the album. The other vignettes feature flowering peony trees and a landscape with rustic huts by a pond. The exteriors' are accented with flowering peonies and camellia.

Honda Genemon II (1845-1906) signed these bowls with the signature " Hongendo" on the base of the bowls. He made porcelains for the trading company Watano Shoten.

Dimensions: D.9"; D.8"; D6"; Condition: Good Condition with some chips on the rims.
