Description
RARE AND HISTORIC PAIR OF BRANT by Bradford Salmon, Mayetta, NJ, (1864-1928) circa early 1900s. Both in excellent restored condition with paint by Chris Sprague. Hollow pair with one a preener and the other a swimmer. Both with split-tail carving. Both with painted feather detail to back and sides. Preener with bill resting atop the back. Swimmer with tight check at mid-neck. Impressed shot shell eye detail. Both retain pad weights. Both bottoms with notation: "BRANT FROM BONNET CLUB, SURF CITY, NJ. BOTH RESTORED BY CHRIS SPRAGUE." Formerly in the Kingdon B. Hemming collection. This identical pair is shown in "Barnegat Bay Decoys and Gunning Clubs" by Patricia H. Burke, page 9, and is included with the pair. Overall length of the swimmer is approximately 20 inches. The preener measures 15 1/2 inches. An outstanding part of New Jersey decoy heritage. 1500-1200
