Original serigraph attributed to Frank L. Philips, a commercial illustrator from Denver, Colorado who was contracted by the Rio Grande to create advertising for the railroad. This scene depicts a Rio Grande passenger train in a gorge. Signed Philips in the lower right. Visible image measures 14 1/2" x 19 1/2". The image has distinct layers and textures of the different colors with each layer building upon the next. The base sky layers are thin enough that you can make out the texture of the artist board below. There are elements of the painting that have incredibly crisp lines such as the signature and the Rio Grande herald at the bottom which leads us to believe that this is possibly a serigraph with hand embellishments in certain areas. This piece is in very nice condition with some very minor separation of the color from the board for maybe an 1/8" at the right side. The frame is worn from age and may be original.
