14kt Late Victorian, Black Onyx Locket, Shield Shape. The back of the locket has an oval indent. Under the framed photos there is a hidden compartment, currently holding a man's photograp. The bail of the locket is adorned with black enamel in a shield shape. The pendant measures approximately 2 1/2" without the bail and an additional 3/8" with the bail. It is appx. 1.25 at the widest point. The bail is 14kt gold as is the frame around the photo. That lifts out with a velvet lined area meant to hold a lock of hair of the person being mourned. This compartment is empty. Very good condion with some minor wear or light chipping on the edge, mostly on the back which is typical of a piece 120 years old or older.
