Description
An antique gold filled mourning locket with strands of multi colored hair intertwined together. This locket is believed to be from the family of Wentworth Cheswell. Cheswell is considered to be the first African American elected to public office in the history of the United States as well as the first African American judge in 1768. The Cheswell family was also believed to be the first African American in New Hampshire to purchase land. The back of the locket is inscribed with what appears to be M.A.T. Cheswell. It measures 1 1/2" x 1 1/8".
