Supplement For The Year 1775 The Gentleman's Magazine
"YEAR 1775"-Dated Revolutionary War Period, "Supplement to the Gentleman's Magazine", Guide to issues and extensive Debates with Contemporary American Revolutionary War content, London, Extremely Fine.
This historic American Revolutionary War period "Supplement" measures about 5.25" x 8.25", with 44 pages, disbound, fully complete. Very unusual, at the end of the volume is this "Direction for Placing PLATES" followed by (15) Full Page Engravings, (2) of which are larger Fold-outs.
The 1st Fold-out, measures 10" x 8-1/4" and illustrates 9 various Wagon design types; the 2nd pullout is also 10" x 8-1/4" titled, "Elevation and Geometrical Profile of The Abbe Church of St. Nicaise at Rheims". There are SIX Full Page Engravings titled: "Curiosities found in the Ruins of Herculaneum" including plates III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII. Additionally there are (7) one-off Engravings. The particular circumstances of the burial of Herculaneum, unlike those of Pompeii, led to the formation over the city of a compact mass of tuffaceous material about 50 to 60 feet (15 to 18 meters) deep. Although this layer made excavation very difficult, it preserved Herculaneum and prevented tampering and looting.
Extensive Debates in both America and Parliament with Contemporary American Revolutionary War historic content provided.
