He made original artworks and developed new imagery and formal syntax. In addition to this, Picasso realized wonderful etchings and linocuts, which exemplify his immense talent also as a printmaker. Linocuts form a relatively small part of Picasso’s oeuvre as a printmaker, however some of his most extraordinary compositions were produced using this method in a short burst of activity between 1958 and 1963. The artist, at the age of 78, turned away from etching and lithography – his favourite means of graphic expression – and embraced the linocut technique.
