Description
New Kingdom, Ca. 1550-1077 BC A finely modelled example of an Egyptian alabaster jar. The vessel features rounded base and an apple-shaped body, that gently tapers upwards to a narrow neck and a wide, flat rim. The colouring is delicately enhanced by beautiful thin veins of white that encircle the piece, providing it with a pleasing visual pattern. In Ancient Egypt, alabaster jars were used as containers for ointment, perfume, and other cosmetic products, such as kohl.Size: L:125mm / W:135mm ; 2.79kgProvenance: Property of a West London gentleman; previously in a collection formed on the UK/International art market in the 1980s.
