Comedian Will Rogers Signed Program Cover- Pronounced the "Greatest of American Humorists"
Program signed, 1 pp, measuring 6.25" x 9", December 15, 1925, Symphony Hall. The program presents Will Rogers alongside the De Reszke Singers, with direction from Albert Steinert. Rogers headlines the show with two performances, one of which cites his famous quote, "All I Know is What I Read in the Papers". This concert was the third in a series of five held at Symphony Hall between 1925-1926. Light toning and small tears around edges, with evidence of prior mounting on verso. Boldly signed next to his name on the program.
Will Rogers (1879-1935) was a comedian and early film actor who starred in a total of 71 pictures, including silent and talkies. He would get his start in showbusiness performing in the famous vaudeville act Ziegfeld Follies, where he portrayed himself as an archetypal cowboy and acted in various stunts. One of his most famous quips used on stage became "Well, all I know is what I read in the papers.", going so far as to have his own column in the New York Times entitled "Slipping the Lariat Over".
