Description
Bronze Signed, dated and dedicated to Emilia Rodrigañez on the right side of the base. Tirso Timoteo Rodrigáñez y Mateo Sagasta (Logroño, January 24, 1853 - Madrid, August 2, 1935), was a Spanish lawyer, journalist and politician, nephew of the Prime Minister and founder of the Liberal Party, Práxedes Mateo Sagasta. During his uncle's presidency he was Minister of Finance and also in the period between April 3, 1911 and March 12, 1912, in the cabinet presided over by José Canalejas. Among the positions held was Governor of the Bank of Spain on three occasions, between 1910 and 1911, between 1917 and 1919 and, finally, in 1923. There, in the Banco de España collection, there is a portrait of him on canvas, made by the painter Juan Antonio Benlliure. He was the father of Emilia Rodrigañez, to whom this work is dedicated and, therefore, grandfather of the girl Mari Pepa Eznarriaga, whom he sponsored at her baptism. Possibly, this splendid bronze bust was commissioned by his daughter from the sculptor Mariano Benlliure, when the politician died in 1935. Measurements: 52 x 30 x 50 cm.
