Francis “Gabby” Gabreski (1919-2002) Air ace. Gabreski was the top American and United States Army Air Force fighter ace over Europe during World War II and a jet fighter ace with the Air Force in the Korean War. Although best known for his credited destruction of 34½ aircraft in aerial combat and being one of only seven U.S. combat pilots to become an ace in two wars, he was also one of the Air Force’s most accomplished leaders. His book, Gabby, Orion Books, 1991, signed, “Francis “Gabby” Gabreski” on a special photo bookplate, affixed to the first blank page. Also signed by fellow air aces Hub Zemke (1914-1994) and Walter Mahurin (1918-2010). There is an autograph note signed on the blank page facing the half-title page, “June 3’95 To Bill With my best wishes God Bless Gabby Gabreski.” Gabreski’sembossed library stamp is on the half-title page, the price is clipped on an otherwise unblemished dust jacket.
