Cimolichthys nepaholica, (Cope, 1872)
Late Cretaceous (Santonian)
Niobrara FMT, Smoky Hill, Kansas, USA
Cimolichthys is a genus of late Cretaceous fish that are considered to be closely related to salmon. Their bodies are known to have been covered with large scutes that may have provided a degree of protection against other predatory fish. The current specimen, seen in a lateral view, is the articulated remains of this large fish, measuring 173 cm in length, which navigated the waters of the Western Interior Seaway, framed. Measuring 72 x 200 x 5 cm (2)
