Description
Five (5) Southern and Mid-Atlantic pottery items including cup by African American West Tennessee Potter Lee Crisp, all with Albany or manganese slip glazes. Includes one (1) earthenware or redware pottery jar with unglazed body and glazed interior with partial stamp reading JOHN W. BELL; one (1) stoneware pottery pitcher stamped T.W. COFIELD E. C. BROWN for Thomas William Cofield and Edward C. Brown working near Atlanta, Georgia; one (1) whiskey jug with ridge around the mid-section stamped NASHVILLE with illegible stamp to the base; one (1) stoneware pottery jug (without handle) incised CHRLES (SIC) GRATE A; and one (1) stoneware pottery mug (missing handle) incised MR. LEE CRISP, for the African American potter b. 1881- d. 1960, working at the Toone Pottery located in Hardeman County, documented in Smith and Rogers (2011), vol. 2, p. 642. All pieces ranging in size from 3" to 10 1/4" H. All items late 19th/early 20th century.

Condition
1st item: Chipping to rim and hairlines. 2nd item: Minor chip to rim and scattered firing flaws. 3rd item: Shallow chip to rim, scattered firing flaws. 4th item: Glaze exfoliation and wear to rim and scattered glaze imperfections. 5th item (Crisp cup): Original handle missing, possible chip to lower edge.
