2 volumes. Woodcut foliated initials and borders by W.M. Quick and George H. Ford after Louise Powell, headings, shoulder notes and small portions of text printed in red, pages uncut. (Folio) 43x30.8 cm (17x12¼"), contemporary white pigskin by W.H. Smith with their stamp, spine with raised bands and gilt lettering, page edges untrimmed. One of 225 copies printed on handmade Batchelor paper, out of a total edition of 245. ;
The binder's own copy of this grand typographic celebration of Don Quixote, the first volumes to be printed in Ptolemy type at the Ashendene Press. This copy belonged to William Henry Smith, the 3rd Viscount, who took over the family book binding business in 1928. With his bookplate in each volume.
Condition
Some minor scuffs to the pigskin, near fine, a lovely set.
