Item Details
Description
B.B. King loved guitars. A pioneer in guitar playing technique, King introduced a sophisticated style of soloing based on fluid string bending, shimmering vibrato and staccato picking that influenced many later blues and rock electric guitar players. When he wasn’t performing on stage he would be found sitting at home with an instrument on his lap, experimenting, testing and tinkering with various brands, styles and setups, ever-innovating and adding to his legendary playing style.

When Guernsey’s was first shown his collection following his passing there were more than 50 different guitars. This is one of those very guitars.

A Gibson Victory MVX electric guitar in Antique Cherry Sunburst owned by B.B. King in Excellent Condition. The Victory MVX guitar is a short-lived but very versatile instrument built between 1981-83. The body is made of eastern hardrock-maple and features an untypical bolt-on neck construction with a scale length of 24 3/4" (63mm). The deep cutaway allows for access to the highest frets. This guitar is equipped with The Bowen Handle (Tremelo System) and comes in it’s original Gibson case.

Visually, these guitars were quite different from the Gibson guitars that preceded them. They were certainly something new for a new decade. The MVX was described as follows...

“The incredible Victory MV 10 produces a myriad of separate and distinct electric guitar tonalities; those voices that fill all the needs and requirements of the dedicated guitarist, and some that you have never heard before!

The Victory guitar bodies and neck/headstocks are crafted entirely of eastern hard rock maple. This produces an incredibly brilliant sustaining tone, because of that material's superior mass and density characteristics.”

King has been recognized as "the single most important electric guitarist of the last half of the 20th century”. This guitar is a testament to B.B. King’s iconic playing style and contribution to the art of guitar playing.
