Condition
Unexamined out of frame.
The panel, which has bowed, is composed of 3 horizontal planks held on the reverse by strips of canvas and is bevelled on all 4 sides.
The paint surface is relatively clean and is a little worn in the darker tones.
There is minor abrasion around the edge of the panel, presumably where the frame has rubbed. In strong light it is possible to see the aforementioned panel joins and some accompanying restoration.
Inspection under UV light is hindered by thick varnish but it is still possible to see: the aforementioned restoration along the upper panel join; infillings and small areas of restoration to the background and foreground; a little strengthening to the still life, lower right; scattered small infillings and retouchings to the figure; and a small horizontal line of infilling, possibly to a split, lower left edge. Further restoration should not be excluded.
