Condition
The canvas has been relined and the varnish is dirty and scuffed. In raking light it is possible to see a Y-shaped line of lifting, upper right, and a vertical line of lifting down the left hand edge. The paint surface is a little worn in some of the dark tones. In strong light it is possible to see some old infilling to the figure's cloak, lower left. There is a small loss near the left hand edge along with some abrasion around the edge of the canvas, presumably where the frame has rubbed.
Inspection under ultra-violet light is very difficult as the varnish is so thick and uneven but there appears to be some old restoration to the background, left, and the aforementioned infilling to the cloak, lower left. Further restoration cannot be excluded.
Unexamined out of the frame.
