Description
A Russian porcelain dessert plate from the Kremlin Service, made by the Imperial Porcelain Factory during the reign of Nicholas I. The center of the cavetto is painted with a black double-headed Imperial Eagle with crown, orb and scepter and surrounded by a gilt band inscribed 'Nicholas the Emperor and Ruler of all the Russias'. The elaborate border is decorated with blue and green flowers against a burnished gilt ground. Diameter: 8 3/4" (22.2 cm). Condition: Worn gilding.
