April 2, 1869-Dated, Autograph Letter Signed, "B. D. Pritchard" as Brevet Brigadier General, measuring 5" x 8", 1 page, Lansing, Michigan, Choice Extremely Fine. A very clean and bright letter on ruled white wove paper in which Pritchard writes to Rodney Mercer, in full, "Dear Sir, -- Your kind favor and request of the 13th ult is recd': and most cheerfully granted." Pritchard's rich fine brown ink signature measures a large 2.5" across.
Benjamin Dudley Pritchard (January 29, 1835 - November 26, 1907) was a United States Army officer, most known for leading the Union cavalry regiment which captured the fugitive Jefferson Davis, President of the Confederate States of America, in the weeks surrounding the close of the American Civil War.
