War of 1812 Era Red Painted Cheesebox Militia Canteen
c. 1810 War of 1812 Era, Red Painted Cheesebox Militia Canteen, with a black painted or stamped American Heraldic Eagle on its face side and a period Iron Belt Clip on the back, Very Fine.
This Cheesebox Militia Canteen measures about 5" in diameter and 1.75" wide. Painted brick red with remnants of its original painted or stamped eagle in black on one side and having an iron belt clip on the other. Iron rivets hold rim in place. As typical lacking a stopper. Overall wear with some paint loss and heavier wear to the left side of the American Eagle. Old museum number 4242 on its back side. A rare example blessed with a Patriotic Eagle device.
