Additional Information: Rare only because most of the similar Mitchell maps that focus on this region do not show the Oregon territory going so far north of the 49th parallel. With others that do show this feature have a broader prospective that includes Texas and goes further East. The boundary between the two being settled at 1819. At the 42nd parallel. It’s a short lived era in geography to show this upper California region. Not recognized as a part of Mexico but California would still not be a state or even occupied by the United States at this point. This region now is California, Nevada, Arizona, Utah and New Mexico. Many native tribes mentioned. From blood Indian in the north to the Apache’s in the south. An important insert of the Columbia River labeled ‘from the cascades to the Pacific Ocean’. A fascinating and highly desirable map.1846 by Samuel Augustus Mitchell, from ‘Mitchell's. School Atlas', published in Philadelphia, hand colored engraved, light soiling and toning and minor foxing. otherwise in good condition. Authenticity Guaranteed.
