Description
Of Philadelphia Pennsylvania. Oil painting on canvas. Coming and going in front of White Cliffs of Dover. "Tontine Philadelphia PA" Name board visible on stern of ship. Tontine was a cargo vessel Captained by Patrick Hayes and was instrumental during the early stages of the War of Greek Independence in 1821-1832. Remnants of label verso appears to identify artist, however, script is illegible. Unsigned on canvas. Housed in period gilt frame. 23 3/8 x 34 1/8 inches.
Condition
Restored, relined. Some losses to frame. Concentration of inpaint in sky by bow of ship with scattered instances throughout canvas.
