Roman, Imperial period, ca. 1st to 4th century CE. A sizeable gold ring, hammered from a single sheet of gold to present an openwork, annular form with a textured, convex exterior and a concave interior. Areas of the exterior display remains of a red pigment made from iron, likely traces of painted decoration that previously graced the surface. Size: 1" Diameter x 0.4" W (2.5 cm x 1 cm); gold quality: 66% (equivalent to 15K+); weight: 5.9 grams; US ring size: 10
