Description
Needlework sampler by Margaret Ann Stoutsenberg, aged 11 years; American, possibly Virginia; floral border encloses alphabet, various stitched bands, adage "Thou canst not steal the rose's bloom To decorate thy face. But the sweet blush of modesty Will lend an equal grace", stitched house and garden and quote "Beauty immortal awakes from the tomb."; signed at center; mounted on green ground and under glass in wood frame; sight approx. 16 1/2"W, 17 1/2"H; frame 21"W, 22"H; sampler not examined outside of frame but appears to be in good overall condition, frame with minor abrasions (Ref. 147)
