Title: Women Plucking Geese (Study)
Framing Dimensions: 12.5 x 15.5
Signature: Signed
Style Fine Art- Realistic
Material & Techniques: Oil on Board

Max Liebermann. This painting, titled “Women Plucking Geese (Study),” looks to be a study for a much larger painting which now hangs in the National Gallery in Berlin. That larger painting was the first painting Leibermann ever exhibited, and this study was a crucial step in its creation, and illustrates how the painting changed over the course of its production. For example, the final version is much darker overall, and does not contain the pops of color that this study features. The subject matter, a seemingly mundane scene from everyday life, actually allows Liebermann to experiment painting a range of textures, including the wood of the building, the figures’ clothing, and the plumage of the geese. Sold as attb. Signed by artist on bottom right.
