Description
This is an uncrowded and elegant double hemisphere world map map. California is represented as an island. S(anta) Fe is identified. Only four of the Great Lakes are identified and it is one of the first maps to name Lake Superior and Lake Michigan, here called Lac des puans. It is one of the first maps to indicate Nouveu Danemarck west of the Hudson Bay. This edition of the Sanson world maps shows Australia with some definition. Novaya Zemlya is still not fully mapped and Kamchatka is absent. The map is typical of Sanson's "scientific" style of cartography, not bothering with decorative elements.
