Signed Abraham Lincoln American Civil War military commission, on velum, appointing William H. Walcott (American 1828/1830-1901), "First Lieutenant in the Seventeenth Regiment of Infantry" "the Fourteenth day of May eighteen hundred and Sixty one", and "GIVEN under my hand at the City of Washington this Nineteenth day of August in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and Sixty one", Signed Abraham Lincoln and countersigned by Secretary of War, Simeon Cameron, framed. Note: Captain William Henry Walcott was a native of Massachusetts and the Walcott Battery at Fort Rodman, New Bedford, is named after him. He is buried in Arlington National Cemetery. This item has been certified by James Spence Authentication. Certificate available upon request. Sight approx. h. 17.25", w. 13.5"; Overall h. 21.25", w. 17.25", d. 15.75".

Wrinkles to velum, previously folded, fading to ink, uneven left and lower edge, approx. 0.75" tear to left edge and 1.25" tear to lower edge, not examined out of frame - frame drilled.
