Description
Artist: Iren Tomaska. Year: 1958. Size: cca. 24 x 17 cm. Condition: light wear. Vintage advertising poster. Charming tram poster for a Hungarian candy, called "Zi-Zi", which was very popular in the Socialist era. It was designed by Iren Tomaska in 1958. Zi-Zi was fruit flavored, swelled rice candy with a colourful, sugary coating - very artificial and unhealthy, yet the children of the 1960s loved it. It got its name after the typical sound it makes when someone chews it. Children usually ate a palm amount of it all at once. This composition pictures the very moment of this action. It is a true retrograde type of sweet, although it is still available today in Hungary, however, the packaging is diffferent. As all the other commercial posters for sweets, this one for Zi-Zi also aimed to target the potential consumers: children. That's why the poster employed a really lovely composition, close to the style of children's drawings.
