Description
An antique enamel 84 gilt silver hand-painted Russian Orthodox icon of Mother Of God Kazanskaya. The mixed media painting: egg tempera, gesso, and levkas on the wood panel. The icon is overlaid with a repousse and chased 84 silver oklad or riza. Presented in an enameled silver frame. The oklad and the frame are covered with an enamel geometrical pattern in blue and cobalt blue shades made in the Cloisonne technique. Circa: late 19th century. Comes with a covered wooden case with a metal clasp on the front. The Kazan Icon of the Mother of God is a revered miraculous icon of the Mother of God, which appeared in Kazan in 1579. One of the most revered icons of the Russian Orthodox Church. Three Kazan icons became the most significant in Russian history: Appeared in Kazan, Moscow, and St. Petersburg.
