Circa 3rd century A.D. or later. A bronze shrine or altar featuring Buddha Sakyamuni seated cross-legged on a throne supported by two stylised lions sporting long manes, lotus petals below, hands seemingly held in dharmacakra-pravartana mudr?, flaming aureole behind his head, animals and mythical creatures adorning the trilobate hollow-formed backing; pierced suspension lug to reverse; ‘Buckingham Collection’ label to verso.
