North America, Western United States, ca. 21st century CE. An impressive knife made from steel and a handsome handle of fossilized dinosaur bone! The single-edged blade is slightly curved with a pointed tip opposite a thick spine and an oval stamp "MHANK / EGNAR, CO". The tang is covered with a brass bolster and the handle panels are carved from fossilized dinosaur bone of lilac, blue, black, and mauve hues. The remarkable coloration is a result of agatization - the bone material replaced with silica creating the marbled crystalline surface of cell structures. The bone likely came from a sauropod dinosaur during the late Jurassic period in the Morrison Formation. This knife is indeed made to be used- the blade is very sharp and comes with a nylon and leather belt sheath. Size: 9.3" L x 1" W (23.6 cm x 2.5 cm); (blade): 4.75" L x 1" W (12.1 cm x 2.5 cm)
