1916 World War I Mark V fighter pilot broad arrow Doxa Pocket watch – British Army flying core. Case back markings are unique to country, branch of service or intended use and our a distinguishing characteristic of vintage military watches. Great Britain’s characteristic Mark was the Broadarrow. For the collector case back markings are key identifiers and an added authenticity safeguard. These markings meant the watches were official military equipment, procured through the contracts and mass-produced for combat pilots. Mark the pocket watches were Standard issue for British armies royal flying corps with 30 our reserve. The RFC aviation issue watch has had an_A with a broad arrow pointing upward underneath it. Once inside the aircraft these watches became chronometric instruments which the pilot fit into the instrument panel. As a result the Mark V had a long shank winding stems to extend beyond their instrument panel housing for midflight winding, earning the nickname cockpit watch.
