East Africa, Ethiopia, Mousterian Period, ca. 300,000 to 40,000 years ago. A collection of 8 hand knapped chert tools, chipped and flaked by prehistoric human ancestors such as Homo neanderthalensis. These petite blades were made to fit perfectly in the hand and have sharpened edges. Note the beautiful coloration, flaking patterns, and indentations all polished and smooth with use and age. This collection is displayed in a modern Riker case. Size (blade): 3" L x 1.5" W (7.6 cm x 3.8 cm); (case): 12" L x 8" W (30.5 cm x 20.3 cm)

Provenance: ex-Sally Snell collection, bequeathed by her uncle Bill Bishop, a noted antiquarian with shops in Scottsdale, Arizona and Allenspark, Colorado, USA, acquired before 2010
