Description
Pointillist painting depicting high trees in a glade. Similar paintings set off the entrance of the traditional Persian painting into the modern Impressionist era.Kamal-ol-Molk (Perfection on Earth) was born in Kashan and he grew up in a family of artistic lineage. He was appointed this epithet by Naser al-Din Shah Qajar whose court he attended for several years. His fellowship in the European art began in his youth ages when he studied with Mozayyen-od-Doleh -a well-known artist who visited Europe and studied European master paintings- and it was deepened in 1898 when he traveled throughout Europe, meeting Western art and copying the techinic of Rembrandt and famous Italian painters. After a period in Iraq, Kamal ol-Molk went back to Iran and opened his own school of art.The influence of the Western art is stricking in this painting either in the choice of the subject and in the preparation of the canvas which is very typical of impressionist paintings in the decades between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th. The production of the painter is varied and includes portraits and interior scenes. For a related subject please see The street Doshan Tappeh, 1899.Signed lower right.
