Description
(1822 - 1886) European-born Union brigadier general, best known as the commanding officer of Fort Delaware, a wartime camp for Confederate prisoners of war. War-date A.L.S., 1p. 4to., Fort Delaware, Dec. 14, 1863, to Gen. John Sprague, in part: ‘...in accordance with your favor of the 8th inst., that Louis Myersburg of the 8th Alabama Rebel regiment is held among the prisoners...’, signed at the conclusion adding his rank. Foxing at the top left corner, trivial tears along the edges at the folds, and some light spotting throughout the text, else very good. Lot includes a sepia-colored portrait of Schoepf, 6.75 x 10.5 in.
