Description
Deutsche Rotes Kreuz (German Red Cross) hewer, 15 3/4 in. long overall, featuring a black checkered Bakelite grip on the obverse, and a smooth grip on the reverse, these held by the original fixing screws. The finish on the pommel, crossguard and the Red Cross emblem is good to very good with only some minor oxidation overall and minimal resultant pitting. The reverse ricasso of the blade is marked 'Ges. Geschutzt' behind the crossguard extension. The blade is generally bright overall, with scattered patches of dark oxidation. Virtually no running marks are visible. The leather buffer washer is also in place and intact. The scabbard is constructed of black-painted steel with an aluminum tip and throat. It is in very good condition, with almost all of the original paint and no dents or dings. The aluminum tip does have an oxidized spot and is missing one screw. The scabbard is also fitted with a correct brown leather frog, marked 'PAUL LOPFE 1938' on the reverse, and but for one scuff, it is in excellent condition. A very good example, much better than is typically seen.
