Description
Important lot of twenty photographs, all original and many captioned on verso, showing the events of May 9-10, 1945 surrounding the arrest of former Reichsmarshal Hermann Goring. The photos, which vary in size from 2.5 x 3.5 in. and larger, show Goring meeting Gen. John Dahlquist and Gen. Robert Stack where Goring's party was met on the road near Mauterndorf, Goring's 'castle', Goring seated with his family outdoors, his daughter in the foreground, German staff members and other officers, and the scene in the courtyard as Goring arrived in his official car. While only four of the images show Goring himself, the photographs offer a good deal of insight into the scene of Goring's arrest and depict the officers and GIs who participated in the mission. Also included is typed narrative by one of the soldiers present describing the arrest and the events which followed. Overall very good.
