(1879 - 1949) French general who was captured in both World Wars, but escaped both times. He negotiated with Eisenhower the surrender of Vichy forces in North Africa, and with the assassination of Darlan, became de facto commander of all French forces in North Africa. A.L.S. 4pp. 8vo., Mar. 12, 1932 in French. Largely untranslated, but mentions troops near Marrakesh, as well as in Libya. Very good.
