First World War.- military gliders.- Ottley (Leonard Charles, inventor of the "Ottfur" quick release system for gliders) Photograph archive, 14 black & white or sepia photographs or postcards, c.180 x 115mm (7 x 4 in) or smaller, some with manuscript letters and postage stamps verso, some torn and creased, one or two with small portions of loss, c.1915-17; together with a scrap album of postcards, greeting cards, and photographs from the period, addressed to or by Ottley, many missing or defective, original cloth, rather worn, 4to.

⁂ An interesting photograph album from Leonard Ottley, First World War mechanic and inventor of the Ottfur Hook quick release system for military glider aircrafts. Ottley's service records show that he enlisted in the Royal Naval Air Service in 1914 and was posted throughout the war until 1918. Photographs show images of gliders grounded and in flight, Ottley's family photographs, and some postcards.
