The Hystory...of the warre, whiche was betwene the Peloponesians and the Athenyans, first English edition, translated by Thomas Nicolls, printed in black letter, fine woodcut title (repaired at head and foot), without the final errata leaf (as often), closed tear to inner margin of C2, affecting a few words but with no loss, some water-staining and occasional soiling but generally a crisp and well-margined copy, old blind-stamped calf, rebacked preserving old label, rubbed and scuffed, [STC 24056], folio, Imprinted [by William Tylle], 1550.

⁂ A very good copy of one of the earliest translations of Greek literature. Thucydides recounts the 5th-century B.C. war between Athens and Sparta and analyses the political and moral policies that fueled the combat.
