Thomas Fuller was a 17th-century English historian who particularly notable for his historical accounts of English worthies and the Church of England.
In 1639, Fuller wrote "A History of the Holy War" - a popular book on the Crusades, taken from several notable and accurate accounts.
It is curious though, Fuller wrote this work with an incredible amount of wit and humor, so much so that he included stories unrelated to the Crusades just to fill pages!
According to Tyerman, Â Thomas Fuller's "A History of the Holy Warre" is one of the more interesting histories of the crusades written by an Englishman.
While several works concerning the Crusades were written and published over the 17th- and 18th-centuries, Thomas Fuller s was the first Anglican view of the Crusades and the first in English following the Reformation.
Modern Crusades scholars such as Christopher Howse describe Fuller's account as a mocking of the Crusades and the allure of Islamic pilgrimage.
Fuller was even known to have said that Islam was the scum of Judaism and Paganism sod together, and here and there strewed over with a spice of Christianity
