A Greek terracotta figure of a grotesque
Circa 5th Century B.C.
The figure swathed in a himation, the face with exaggerated mouth and ears, with white slip, added details in red and terracotta, 16.3cm high

Private collection, London, acquired in the 1960s; by descent to the present owner.
There is a similar Boeotian figure in the British Museum, which it is suggested is probably connected with the dramatic rituals at the Kabeiron Sanctuary at Thebes. Museum No. 1996,0326.2.
