New York: 21 March 1934. Two and a quarter pages on recto and verso of two sheets of Gershwin's stationery, signed in full "George Gershwin," the original envelope in Gershwin's hand is present. 8 1/2 x 6 1/2 inches (22 x 16). Usual fold, slight stain to second leaf, envelope worn.

In a charming letter, George Gershwin here tells Mrs. Cooper that "I'm glad you listen to my little program & I hope you're enjoying it as much I enjoy doing it. It's fun and I've found my voice. Imagine waiting till you're 35 to find you've got a natural speaking voice on the radio. It's almost like discovering you can play the violin the first time you try." Gershwin continues discussing the songs he is playing and closes "I am, as usual, as ever, George Gershwin."

Music by Gershwin was broadcast on the NBC Blue Network from February to May and September through December 1934 as Gershwin needed to raise money to finance the opera he was writing, Porgy and Bess. Autograph letters from Gershwin, who died in 1938, are infrequent at auction.
